60 years ago, Swiss watchmaker OMEGA released the first rendition of the Railmaster. Collectors and fans alike are ecstatic as 2018 marks the return of the long-awaited timepiece. The new version of the watch preserves the simple and elegant design traits that gave the first version it’s signature aesthetic.
The Railmaster was originally conceived for railway workers as the name suggest. As watch are highly affected by magnetic fields, the Railway by Omega was shielded by an inner protective case, allowing it to resist magnetic fields of up to 1000 gauss, an impressive feat as most watch have a resistance of only 60 gauss.
Thank to the master chronometer calibre 8806, the modern day Railmaster is 15 times more resistant than the original model. This is the highest standard in the industry, and has solidified Omega’s position as the leader in anti-magnetic innovation.
The new vertically-brushed grey dial is instantly appealing and includes recessed hour-markers which are all filled with “vintage” Super-LumiNova. The dial also features a railway minute track, OMEGA’s “crosshair” symbol of precision, and a transferred beige “Railmaster” indication which delivers a classic touch.Wearers can choose to have their Railmaster presented on a fully brushed and integrated stainless steel bracelet or on a brown leather NATO strap.
A second version of the new OMEGA Railmaster is also available. It follows the same design but with a black dial.
