Porsche 911 GT2 RS Sets New Lap Record
What better place to test out the new Porsche 911 GT2 than on the world-renowned German racetrack? AutoBuild took the supercar out for a drive on Sachsenring and set a world record in the process.
The driver was able to complete a lap around the legendary track in just 1:26:61. This proves that “The Widowmaker” is, in fact, very fast; Not surprising to most. More importantly, it proves that the new 911 GT2 RS is faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder, which held the previous track record of 1.26.77.
The 911 GT2 demolished the track time’s set its competitors. Neither the Mercedes AMG GT R, The Mclaren 720 S, Lamborghini Huracan Performante, or The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 came close to the time set by The Widowmaker.
Just in case these stats are too hard to believe, the track run was captured on video for our enjoyment.
