Virgil Abloh might be new to Louis Vuitton, but his name has been around for years. Most notably is the creator of Off-White, one of the hottest and most sought-after ready-to-wear brands in recent history. Not to mention he is also the longtime friend and creative director for Kanye West.
Louis Vuitton is one of the oldest and most relevant fashion houses ever, it is groundbreaking to see them bring on 37-year-old Abloh who is currently one of the most influential faces in fashion and has a lock on haute street-wear. Abloh is LVMH’s first African-American designer since Ozwald Boateng.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Abloh stated that he is elated to be the new men’s fashion designer at the world’s largest luxury group. He went to say “This opportunity to think through what the next chapter of design and luxury will mean at a brand that represents the pinnacle of luxury was always a goal in my wildest dreams. And to show a younger generation that there is no one way anyone in this kind of position has to look is a fantastically modern spirit in which to start.”
Be on the lookout for new designs as Abloh is set to have his first Louis Vuitton show during men’s fashion week in Paris this June.
