2018 Cadillac XT5 Review
For the last few years, Cadillac has continued to make significant strides towards revitalizing the 116-year old luxury brand. The challenge Cadillac seems to have is, how to maintain their current status as a high-end luxury brand, while at the same time attracting a younger audience.
As difficult as this may be, Cadillac seems to have taken a firm stance on appealing to the “young entrepreneur” through some of there newer designs. Although the brand used to get a lot of love from rappers, It’s been a while since an artist talked about owning a Cadillac in a song. However Cadillacs is far from giving up on attracting a younger audience, in fact, they have been making huge strides towards winning millennials over.
This brings us to the 2018 XT5 Crossover, Cadillac’s bread and butter vehicle when it comes to sales. The XT5 competes in the class of midsize luxury crossovers and is both sophisticated yet practical.
Performance wise the 2018 XT5 packs a 3.6-litre 310hp V6 engine though I must admit that, as a younger driver, I place more importance on the exterior of the car over its performance. This being said, I am glad the 2018 XT5 received a substantial weight cut, embracing a fashion-forward aesthetic with sharp lines and sweeping curves while staying true to the signature grill.
Not only does the visionary lighting system frame the XT5’s sharp exterior, night driving is that much easier thanks to the LED intellibeam headlamps which automatically switch between high and low beams depending on there being oncoming vehicles. The very welcoming illuminating door handles are a nice touch, but even more striking are the 20-inch aluminum wheels with ultra bright machined finish and midnight silver accents.
As for the interior, I am glad to see The XT5 has implemented both apple carplay and android auto. This, along with the Cadillac user experience, allows me to access my contacts, music, and other applications with ease. Speaking of music, the XT5 comes equipped with an 8-speaker Bose sound system providing high clarity surround sound sure to strike a chord with a younger audience. Cadillac truly has a grasp on their XT5 target audience, the addition to a wireless phone charging station and OnStar 4G LTE wi-fi is perfect for the young business person on the go who can’t go a single moment being disconnected.
While driving the 2018 XT5, I felt in total control. Rarely did I ever have to take my eyes off the road thanks to the heads-up display which let me know how fast I was going, what song was playing, and other useful information. Automatically adjusting brake pressure and real-time damping insured I was having the most comfortable and stable ride possible.
After testing out the 2018 XT5, I can say with confidence that the brand has done a great job of making a crossover that appeals to on-the-go millennials while maintaining that high-end luxury flare. Gone are the days of Cadillac being your “grandfather’s car”. The New Cadillac XT5 gives all drivers looking for a luxury crossover more than enough reason for consideration.
