Record breaking Porsche 959 Sold for $2,000,000
If you know Porches, you know that not too many models retail at an eight figure price tag like some Ferraris tend to. However, every now and then, Porches give you a reason to bring out the big bucks. It’s most recent, the 1988 Porsche 959 sport.
Not just any 959, this 1988 Porsche Sport is one of the top lots from RM Sotheby’s Paris sale. It set a new world record for its kind when it sold for €1.96 million – or $2.08 million at current exchange rates.
This is the most that any 959 has ever been sold for, beating out last year’s 959 which sold for 935k, and selling for significantly more than the car of the same model sold for at the RM in Arizona in 2015, a price of 1.21 million.
An example of Porsche's best work, the 959 was a technological powerhouse and one of the preeminent supercars of the 1980s. Only 284 have been made, were 29 of them are sports models with a roll cage instead of the comfort version luxuries which equates to 220 pounds less weight.
